Our Outdoor Program runs from mid-May to mid-October. All regularly scheduled outdoor play is included with your membership fee. Outdoor play is held at two locations, Veterans Park and Larch ultimate-purpose rink. Member sign-up opens every Thursday for the following week.
Our Indoor Program is offered in three sessions (January-February, March-April and November-December) in Room 200, Canmore Rec Center on 2 courts. Indoor play is run on a cost recovery basis, by pre-selling tickets, with online registration for play at your skill level. Members only. There is no indoor drop in play.
Most of our play is levelled round robin play: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced. We also offer Mixed Doubles Same Partner play, open to all levels and Ladder play.

ATB WEALTH SPONSOR UPDATE
ATB Wealth, our BVPA title sponsor, has graciously provided a gift certificate for two to play a round of golf, with cart, at Stewart Creek Golf Resort.
So here's our plan - every person who attends our Social following the tournament on Sunday September 15 will be entered in a draw for this generous gift from ATB Wealth. The draw will be made at the Social.
The Social will be Rain or Shine on Sunday - there will be tents for shelter if needed - so come on down to GRIZZLY BBQ. Come hungry and thirsty. A map to the location and a GRIZZLY BBQ menu was included in my earlier email to you. All the items on the menu sound yummy! Remember it is not the Main Street location.
So, come on down! The Social is not solely for tournament participants. Everyone is welcome!

INJURY PREVENTION CLINIC
Are you interested in learning how to prevent pickleball injuries, then read on?
In collaboration with the BSM Clinic and the Bow Valley Pickleball Association, the Banff Sport Medicine Foundation is pleased to offer this free and informative event!
During this education session, Physiotherapist Nicole Tos and Exercise Physiologist Chelsea Mackenzie will discuss injury prevention for pickleball players.
They will go through the most common injuries, what sort of training can prevent the risk of injuries, and tips on when to seek professional guidance.
There will be a pre-pickleball warm up and exercises that everyone will go through together, so come prepared to participate!
When: Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 6:00-7:00 pm

SEPTEMBER CLASSIC TOURNAMENT SOCIAL
Our outdoor season is rapidly rolling into its final weeks and our ever popular September Classic Tournament is on September 14 and 15!
If you are playing in the tournament, good luck to you all! If you are not playing, please come down to cheer on your pickleball friends! Spectators are very welcome! Bring your own deck chairs – seating at the courts is very limited.
Also, please join us for the BVPA Social!

Where: GRIZZLY BBQ – this is located BEHIND Tank 310 and NOT the Main Street location.

SEPTEMBER CLASSIC TOURNAMENT
Our September Classic Tournament will be held on September 14-15. Although not all tournament details have been nailed down, be sure to “save the date” and be ready to bring your best game to the courts!
As well, we are planning a SOCIAL following play on the second day of the tournament! So, plan to join us regardless of whether you are entered in the tournament or not.
Registration for the tournament will be on Trackie beginning on Thursday August 22 at 8:00 AM.

MID SUMMER UPDATE
As we near the midway point of the outdoor season, let’s express our appreciation for a terrific season so far.
Thanks to the cooperative efforts of our Play Committee, the scheduled play has run smoothly both on Veterans’ Park Courts and on the Larch Courts! Well done, everyone!
Our Midsummer Mixer Mash Up was a great success! Many thanks to Sue Cowitz and Mike Layton as Tournament Directors. Their team of volunteers who helped make everything run smoothly were "simply the best"!. For this tournament, they even added a new element – scorekeepers! This was a great addition to the tournament play and we send many thanks to our intrepid scorekeepers!
And thank you again to our Social Committee for organizing the refreshments and the prizes!
New to our club this season has been the introduction of Ladder Play. Sue Cowitz has done a super job of organizing our Ladder Play – it is a big job so please give Sue a “high five” when you see her!
Behind the scenes have been our Governance Committee, our Development Committee, our Membership Services Committee, our club Treasurer - all doing the work needed to support the play you so enjoy on our courts.
Many thanks to you all and enjoy the remainder of the summer!

NEW - YOUTH PLAY
We have implemented a Youth Play program for qualified individuals. This initiative is headed up by Al and Ruth Shipton and has very clear qualifications and requirements stipulated. You can see the attendant documents and forms on our website under the Membership tab. There we have posted our Youth Membership Application Form and the Responsible Adult Application Form. If this is of interest to you, your first step is to carefully review the Forms and the requirements and then let me know of your interest. We expect to proceed on a case by case basis.

There are 4 permanently lined pickleball courts utilizing temporary nets provided by the BVPA for club sponsored events only. Traditional hard court surface. Please park on 8th Street when using the courts.

OUTDOOR PICKLEBALL IN CANMORE FOR VISITORS
If you are planning a visit to Canmore and are looking for opportunities to play outdoor pickleball while in Canmore, here are three options. Due to venue restrictions, the BVPA has no indoor drop-in play.
1. If you want to play once or twice with our Bow Valley Pickleball Association members.
We are organized by skill levels: Novice (2.5), Intermediate (3.0) and Advanced (3.5+). See QUICK Links on this webpage to see our Outdoor Play Schedule and location of play (Veterans or Larch).
Our BVPA Guest Player Policy states that visitors (ages 18+) are welcome to join the play at their appropriate skill level as long as there is room in the event.
There is no online means for visitors to determine whether a given session has available spots. Instead, we ask visitors to come to the courts as per the Outdoor Play Schedule (see the Quick Links for the current month schedule) and if there is availability, you will gladly be welcomed to play with the BVPA members. Please choose the proper session for your realistic level of play and arrive at least 15 minutes early.
There is a $10.00 fee per session to be paid in cash to the Session Captain. A liability waiver also needs to be read and signed prior to the start of play. Visiting players need to bring their own paddles.
2. If you expect to play several times and you want to be able to sign-up for sessions, join the Bow Valley Pickleball Association and become a member. Please note that as of September 15th, this option is no longer available as the outdoor season is winding down. Membership renewals and new memberships will open again on October 1st with memberships valid until December 31, 2025.
3. If you have your own playing group, paddles and balls (with/without your own net).
Veterans: If you have your own net, you can book Veterans Court by navigating your way through an extensive sign-up process found at https://canmoretennis.ca/Website/Page/Home Court fees are $20 per hour. These 4 courts are shared by pickleball and tennis and both have prebooked times set aside for their respective club play only. Outside of pre-booked club court times, there are available times for bookings by visitors.
Larch: If you do not have your own net, Larch multi-purpose rink has 2 permanent nets in place and is lined for 4 courts. Outside of pre-booked court times, Larch rink can be booked through the Town of Canmore. Cost is $12 for residents or $20 for non-residents.
